Good Vibes at SXSW

Here are some of our adventures.

We projected Vibe Walls outside huge lines for concerts and parties. Folks with a good two-hour wait ahead indulged in shout-outs, complaints, love notes, and an occasional anonymous political message visible to the crowd. A partygoer voiced an awesome tagline after hearing our description of the app.

Vibe. Because your boss is on Twitter and your mom is on Facebook.

At the Decentralized Dance Party we carried our portable projector, Vibe Walling everywhere the 1,000-person parade of boomboxes stopped. A favorite spot was below the Austin Power Plant, where Vibers made requests to a DJ blasting out from a remote FM transmitter.

Kids on the street stopped us to ask what the V for Vibe was all about. They’d seen the V around town. The T-shirts were cool. But the Tattoos were cooler.

Things got nerd chic at the Made In NY, Austin event, a showcase of New York startups. Then we rocked out with the Rocket Boys at the Soft Layer party. Great vibes, great friends, and conversations about using Vibe at concerts, in education, and as a tool for freedom of expression. Next year we’re staying for more music!

Passing notes in class might be a good thing.
Students all are already having fun with Vibe. How can teachers take advantage of the app in the classroom too? We’re at SXSWedu exploring the possibilities.

The Vibe App is a free tool for communication and sharing. Ideal for students and teachers alike.

  • Geolocation controls allow classes to fence the conversation to the radius of the classroom or lecture hall.
  • For an extra layer of privacy, double hashtags allow teachers and classes to create private message threads for those who know the tag. That way students in the next class located in your lecture hall won’t see your conversations. ##TopSecret.
  • Pseudonymous messaging allows students to say and ask what they might normally be too embarrassed to. This might work well in classes like ESL where language barriers and shyness can be real limits.
  • Search and single hashtags allow you to peruse and catalog tagged messages around you and bellowed out to the world. You can even retroactively tag conversations by replying to a message using a single hashtag. #Cool.

If you’re an educator looking for new tools please Download Vibe 1.5 free in the App Store and tell us what you think! We’d love your feedback.

V is For Vibe! Announcing Version 1.5.

On the heels of last week’s announcement that we’ve joined Betaworks, we’re excited to introduce the newest version of Vibe, now available in the App Store.

Here’s what’s new:

  • ##:  What are double hashtags?  They allow you to message privately with only those who know your tag.  Add a double hashtag to any message in vibe and share it with your friends.  Get on the inside track at ##Vibe.
  • Search: Find tagged messages around you and bellowed out to the world.  Search for #OWS to check out what protesters are saying on Wall Street.
  • Upgraded UI:  We’ve enhanced Vibe’s UI, making it easier for you to discover and join discussions.

We’re going to SXSW! Download Vibe 1.5 and join the conversation in Austin.

betaworks:

There’s no better feeling than falling in love. Last fall, as the Occupy Wall Street movement gathered momentum, we noticed that many of its participants were communicating with one another using an iPhone/Android application called Vibe. We looked at Vibe and we fell in love: here was a simple,…
